to get the right torque, or else it will become loose with time. BTW, the asp UD sucks, you should have got the UR pulley. Now, I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm only saying this because I used to have the asp and it warped the end of my crank and the key went side ways, so I'm screwed until I rebuild my motor again. BTW, the timing mark is off like 5 degrees on the asp version, just trying to warn you.
